DESIGNS RECEIVE POSITIVE REVIEWS AND LONG AWAITED APPROVAL
WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA (February 24, 2016) –The Walnut Creek Design Review Committee (DRC) gave the green light to Viamonte, a dynamic new senior living community, which will offer services and amenities unprecedented in Contra Costa County, during a special meeting held February 17.
Viamonte Strikes a High Note With City Officials
The DRC lauded the project as “a high-quality residential product that creates outdoor courtyards and other substantial amenities onsite, including a pool, a garden, a lounge, activity and community rooms, and other social spaces for residents.” Some of the commissioners had the following remarks:
“I really like the project’s modern look and its adjacency to the Orchards. I like the entrance, the revised drop off areas and I think the materials are all fine. The Stone is clean and modern and if the corners are treated well I am sure it be beautiful.”
“I really like the stone, colors and materials and I encourage City Staff to approve over the counter as much as you can. This team has reacted very well to our Study Session Comments so Right-On… GO FORTH!
“I find this team is more thoughtful than others and could work directly with staff on any outstanding issues.”
“I think it’s beautifully done and represents a nice balance of what’s been done at the Orchards while maintaining a sleek and modern senior community. This will be a lovely place to live and will be so much better than your average stucco bland senior housing.”
Overwhelming Interest in Viamonte
Since the new community was first unveiled last Fall during a series of presentations at the Lesher Center, the response has been overwhelming. At the DRC meeting this week, project representatives stated that the interest list has grown to over 800 people, demonstrating an urgent interest in this type of housing in Walnut Creek. In fact, several prospective residents came to the special hearing to lend support for the project. Pricing details will be released once the project has received construction bids expected in early Spring. Groundbreaking is expected in 2017.
The One and Only CCRC in Contra Costa County
Viamonte will offer Walnut Creek area seniors the opportunity to live in a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). This will be the first CCRC to be developed in Contra Costa County. Located within the Orchards, Viamonte Senior Living will be ideally situated near a large retail development by Terramar Retail Centers (TRC), which when completed, will include shopping and dining, a new Safeway store, trails and outdoor community areas. The site of the Orchards property was formally the site of the Safeway test kitchens.
