The COVID-19 pandemic has left a lot of seniors unsure of their retirement plans and how they can remain safe and navigate this new normal. Whether you’re currently retired or are planning on it in the near future, you’ve likely been spending a lot of time in your home to stay safe and flatten the curve. You may have noticed during these periods of social distancing that too much alone time can take its toll on the mind, which can lead to other health issues as well.
A Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), or Life Plan Community, is a neighborhood of individuals with goals and values similar to your own. Being a part of this type of community will allow you to build relationships with others and avoid isolation, which can be a serious issue for those who remain in their homes as they age.
Viamonte at Walnut Creek, a CCRC, can provide future residents with a fulfilling lifestyle without sacrificing safety during these uncertain times. Find out more about how joining Viamonte at Walnut Creek can help you achieve the lifestyle you’ve always envisioned for yourself while adhering to precautions put in place for today’s climate.
Socially Distant, But Still Social
Staying active socially is shown to have a positive impact on your health. Many retirees want to spend their time appreciating the finer things in life that may have fallen by the wayside when they worked full time and maintained a home. CCRCs are designed to allow you to embrace all that life has to offer. And one of the best parts is that you’re making new friends along the way.
The community at Viamonte that’s being cultivated right now is already welcoming and tightknit with numerous opportunities every day to bond with others and participate in events and programs. Interacting with others and creating long-lasting relationships with friends you can invite over and explore the community with can improve your quality of life vastly. You’ll also find comfort knowing your friends are just a few doors down or a short walk away. And with plenty of outdoor common spaces, it’s easy to stay safe no matter what you choose to do.
Offering Peace of Mind to Loved Ones
You may have had your mind set on remaining in your home after retirement, but this can pose a challenge as you age. Your safety may be compromised as the years go on, causing your family and loved ones to worry, especially during a pandemic.
Proper COVID-19 safety measures put in place at a senior living community adhering to CDC guidelines ensure the environment is safe and controlled for you, your loved ones and staff members. Remaining in your own home may mean you’re exposed to far more risks than at a senior living community, where resources you need are available right within the controlled environment. You can attend doctors’ appointments, pick up medication and have meals delivered without having to expose yourself to outside risks.
Staying in a CCRC will also give family members the peace of mind that you’re taken care of, from something as simple as medicine management to more serious issues such as medical emergencies or falls.
Varying Health Care as You Age
You or a loved one may not require any assistance currently, so you’d fit into the independent living part of the Viamonte community. But as the years go on, day-to-day activities can grow more difficult and one day you may require services from nurses or staff members. At a Life Plan Community, long-term care services will be available to you, likely in the same location so you don’t have to move.
Viamonte’s Continuing Care approach includes three levels of living: independent living, assisted living and memory care. This approach ensures Viamonte will be there for you every step of your life.
- Independent living allows for all the comforts and privacy you have in your own home with the conveniences of living in a community with everything you need nearby.
- Assisted living is available when you’re in need of medication management and additional support with daily tasks.
- Memory care is for those who are experiencing mild to moderate dementia.
